Animation

In the first quarter of animation class, we had a number of consecutive projects to learn some of the fundamentals of modeling, shading, lighting, motion, and so on. We worked in teams on each project, each of us responsible for an individual assignment as well as some contribution to a group scene. As I know you all are curious people, I've put my contributions below.

The images began to pile up a tad large, so I've split them off by assignment.

  1. Modeling -- The first stage of making a digital image is modeling the subject, of course.

  2. Shading -- After modeling, it always looks better with some good texture work.

  3. Lighting -- But textures only go so far, and good lighting can add magnitudes of volume to an image.

  4. Motion -- Oh yeah, animation class; we should probably look into basic motion.

  5. Character -- Basic motion, when applied and refined, yields the character animation goal.

The second part of the animation course was a full-quarter plus a whole bunch of extra time spent as one mass group making one video. We waaay overshot our abilities on this, we suffered through every imaginable workplace issue you could think of -- politics, budgets, right down the line -- but finally produced something pretty amazing. I paint a mixed picture of it because I still have strong misgivings about the experience. But I do have to admit the final result is pretty amazing.  :)

If you want the full download, and you have a lot of time, I've put the video here:

Cheers!
